Cynthe’s Bio

Cynthē Brush – northern California photographic artist

I WAS FORTUNATE to be born into an artistic family.

My Dad’s talent was apparent in early grade school with his surprisingly accurate architectural sketches. Dad’s keen love of photography took root in his teens…a passion that continues today in his 80’s…and has carried on in both my sister and myself. He’s also a talented craftsman-painter with a bold graphic style, revealing his subjects in subtle palettes of layered hues.

My Mom’s aesthetic gifts blossomed – like her mother’s – with an appreciation of fashion & textiles, jewelry, home decor & food preparation. She’s an extraordinary collector of all sorts of things: camels and cobalt glass, decorative plates & spoons, cats & hats, novels and novelties.

Mom’s also a fine abstract collage artist with an unusual vision. She’s had a few phases of intense creativity expressed through knitting or abstract decoupage. But, for the most part, her home is her canvas with every wall & flat surface an artistic assemblage of art, ceramics, sculpture, collectibles, books, plants, and more.

My sister and I created art early on. An interesting global childhood… beginning in Chicago Illinois, then sailing the world’s oceans between 1952 – 1963 included a multi-cultural decade, being raised in Pakistan & India without TV, radio, records, or a telephone.

It was a wonder-filled childhood rich with imagination, books, pencils, crayons, scissors, paper and glue, dress-up, make believe, story telling, games, and endlessly creative collaboration.

We were always best friends…no matter where our family lived. Read more about our family’s connections to India and Pakistan, beginning with my Dad’s birth in Bengal (Eastern India) and lively boyhood years growing up in India:

My formal fine art training has been in traditional media: drawing (including the human form), photography, ceramics, painting in oils & watercolor; print-making, graphic & web design, along with an extensive art history education.

Almost six decades have passed. I work in the aesthetic field of graphic & web design….while pursuing my inner muse in a growing collection of D’Gravure™ Fine Art Prints (digital etchings). My inspiration? Nature’s beauty in this lovely portion of the earth – northern California – Sonoma county farmlands, hills, and Pacific coastline, and in my favorite gardens…of family, friends, public places and my own exuberant suburban oasis.

My creativity has also found expression in some fun gift & clothing designs:
